Live in Sydney In February – Now With Video!

So, I’m trying something out this month, and have lashed together a little video preview thing for some bands playing this month that you might think are awesome too.

And what a fine month February’s turning out to be here in Sydney… a full five of my very favouritest people all gracing various stages across the weeks:

Courtney Barnett (Oxford Art Factory, 14th Feb, supporting Jens Lekman)

Absolutely loving the noise coming out of this band. Awesome live, too. They’re supporting Jens Lekman on the 14th at Oxford Art Factory.

The Smith Street Band (The Annandale, 15th Feb)

A relative newcomer, but firmly up there with my absolute favourite bands of all time. Just a pure, unadulterated joy.

Jeremy Neale (FBi Social, 1st Mar, supporting Gung Ho)

There has to be something wrong with Jeremy Neale, right? He’s in at least three bands, one of which is Velociraptor (who are brilliant), another is Running Gun Sound (see below), as well as performing under his own name, in a sharp suit. No-one has the right to be that fucking awesome. NO-ONE.

Shady Lane (OAF, 8th, 14th and 22nd Feb, Free!)

‘Built Guilt’ was a little corker from the front part of last year, but I didn’t realise what a charmer singer Jordy was until he sat down and did a little Field Recording session with me. Don’t think the show will be as sparse, but it will be totally worth your time, and worth a damn sight more than the zero dollars they’re charging for these shows.

Running Gun Sound (OAF, 21st Feb, part of the ‘Gimme Shelter’ night)

It was only after I’d played ‘Just You See’ about a hundred times before I realised Jeremy Neale was in this damn band too. Seriously, I’d ban myself from writing about him again, but I think that’d leave me about two or three Australian bands left I could actually talk about. Anyway, this lot stand out for me not because of the surf and garage Aussie standard racket, but the oddly Public Image Limited vocal that gets dropped on its head. Love it. Bet this’ll be cracking fun – they’re playing as part of the ‘Gimme Shelter’ night at the OAF, so it’s a pretty safe bet I reckon.
